The temptation of St Anthony has been always a great opportunity for artist to go crazy and explore the broad range of what the demonic lands of insanity can offer to the visual realm, from the great master Bosch, Michelangelo(Schongauer), Daly and many many more.
But even with that every now and then even among the famous painters some not so crazy and rather normal and earthly paintings appear, like the cases of Cezanne or Lovis Corinth which are fairly normal paintings if we compare them with the images that all the other temptations of St Anthony evoke, those kind of paintings were clearly going for something else, a more traditional and devoid of metaphors and mysticism kind of interpretation, certainly i wont blame if people call those painting beautiful, but they are also boring.

Now this image is clearly inclined towards the not so wild spectrum, it is not as soft as what Cezanne and Lovis painted, but it is definitively far away from being a demonic showcase, the painting is definitively good, but giving the subject i refuse to give this a 5, The Temptaion is that painting when artists can go wild with, and each time is see someone wasting the opportunity i am disappointed, it is a good painting but it could have so much more.

BazookaBonsai responds:

I agree.
It's definetly not one of the more surreal renditions of this subject like Salvador Dalis famous version, for example.
Originaly, it was ment to be a steping stone to create more surreal and sombre motives. For me, the temptation of st anthony came to mind immediately. Perhaps not the best motive idea I ever had.

Then again, the entire mythology around st Anthony is pretty extensive. Perhaps I'll tackle it again someday and play around with a "democ showcase" some more. Thanks for your honest feedback.

Ah tremors were such great movies, and with each one they got more crazy, good times.
