When I revisited Holly Shot after thinking that I had found her counter, I got distracted by her figure... but after regaining focus I thought that because her finger was on fire she was able to use magic, and thus the counter I had found was not a counter anymore.
However! now that I have checked lots of your characters I have come to see that being on fire and having color speech bubbles are common design element, regardless of the character being able to use magic.
Before I noticed this commonality, I was under the impression that the speech bubbles were just that, expressions in order to show the state of mind of the character, if they are pensive, aggressive, smug, completely silent, friendly or malicious, or showed what they liked or disliked, so I didn't pay this design aspect much attention.
But... not all of them have speech bubbles, while those that do have them, have them with special colors.
For example Holly Shot and The Snowmmando, don't have a speech bubbles, but they both have colored fire, usually I would have assumed that The Snowmmando being a construct lacks sentience, so no speech bubble for him.
But then what about Holly Shot? She is clearly sentient (and hot, as in on fire hot, but also orange 02 hot, you don't make a lot of female characters, but when you do, it is a great work). More over these speech bubbles often come out not from the characters but from their weapons or items like it is the case with Murry or The Halo Taker, and while The Halo Taker could have a magical sentient weapon +5, Murry just has a bat with an electric circuit that he powers himself.
As for the fires well that also has me at a lost, a huge lost in this case, because I was sure, I was 100000% convinced it was just a way to show that the character can use magic or has some link to a supernatural power.
But Blowout seems like a normal gang member, and unlike Murry he doesn't seems to use elemental powers, and his moves revolve around being able to inflate and deflate quickly on command, and he is not using magical items either like the helmet of bravery that Cromwell has.
Blowout is using normal tech, hell going back to Holly Shot, her bullets and the models for her electronic eye replacements are also on fire, but they aren't magical.
So if it is not magic or elemental powers, maybe they are a way to show the alignment system of characters? lawful good gets blue fire, lawful evil red, chaotic neutral orange, but that one doesn't checks out either... specially because why would normal items have an alignment.
Then I thought that maybe they are like auras to show the determination of the characters, DBZ style, except that rather than covering the whole character they leak out from their back, shoulder, or fingers, but... then again some times these fires come from things detached from the characters, like their ammo.
And, to top it all off my favorite character Mantor Mantisman, busiest starboxer of all time, the hero that broke free from the hive mind and earned his freedom, the great portal master, he doesn't has fire nor speech bubbles... so what are these things?
These fires here and there, along with the colored speech bubbles, what are they?
